Say Liza!
If you've pondered how to pronounce my name…
It's a Hebrew name (אֵלִי), and so, the correct way to say it is eh-lee (emphasis on the eh). Most people use the spelling “Eli”, but this is open to too much interpretation (such as ilai, which I explicitly do not like.) So a friend, who has a keen for germanic languages, suggested Ælij (Aelij). I just love that cool æ ligature! Note that in latin-based languages, æ is pronounced ay, whereas in germanic-based, it is eh.
P.S.
The title for this post is a reference to Liza Minnelli's song, Say Liza. She too seems to be frustrated about people mispronouncing her name.
